The Asian Hornet

The Asian hornet (Vespa velutina) was first reported in Ireland in 2021, with a single specimen found in Dublin. However, more alarming was the discovery of established nests in Cork in August 2025. If you see a hornet, please use the below link to report.

The IBA

The Irish Beekeepers Association (IBA) is a democratic and egalitarian organisation established in 2017 to support Irish beekeepers and the bees they keep. Their mission is to promote beekeeping for all and to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where every beekeeper feels respected and valued.

They foster environmentally sustainable beekeeping, offer affordable group insurance cover and provides internationally recognized qualifications. The IBA also supports relevant apiculture research and the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan.
